TOPIC: Arkansas Traveler update

Arkansas Traveler update 14 years 8 months ago #2681

Got the floors all replaced and cut all the carpet.Today I
sealed all the rivets from the inside with Gluvit. This stuff
really does a good job as far as adhersion goes, just hope it
seals as good.
Picked up a set of controls for my 57 Lark but still looking
for a set a little more close to the year of the motor. The set
I have are about 1960's Evinrude Shipmaster controls.
I should have it back on the trailer this weekend and the
motor back on the first of the week.
until next time, Jack in AZ

Some people are like slinkies... Not much good for anything, but they sure are fun to push down the stairs.

Got her back on the trailer and the lark looks perdy good to me,
hope I can get it running.Found a set of controls for the same year
motor and got new cables, everything inside the boat coming together
real nice.I put a set of stock rhino seats in for my first trip,I
still need a picture of the front seat to rebiuld a new one.
Impeller and carb kit tonight and off to find brushes for the
starter.Looks like a trip to the lake real soon! 80 outside today.
next update should be a wet one.

Finally got to the lake today and figured why the lark came together so well.Started right up and idled great, backed off the trailer, great, shifted to forward and will not stay in gear!Seems
like this happened the last time with an older omc.I still have
5or6 motors with good lowers,I hope, probably back to the lake next
Wed.We ideled for 3 hours and had no problems the whole time.

you may not have a problem with the lower unit it could be cable or there is an adjustment procedure for the shift arm on the side of the motor. I need to find it. I had a problem with a big twin 30 I converted from long shaft back to short shaft it would kick or miss reverse. I knew everything inside was in excellent condition because I resealed the lower unit.
It is not hard to do but you need to loosen the shift arm with the cable off and there is a screw adjustment so when you pull forward or push back she clicks in forward and reverse and returns to neutral. Then recheck the cable adjustment and you should be OK
