TOPIC: Lone star Malibu questions

Lone star Malibu questions 12 years 4 months ago #63214

Hey, I'm working on an old 14 foot aluminum Johnson lone star this summer and was looking for a little help identifying it. After looking at some brochures I'm pretty sure it is a Malibu but cant figure out the year. Someone told me it was a 57 but the body looks like a 59 or 60 but not exactly the same. My dad and I fixed it up a while ago and I think the paint job we gave it is close to the original. From the pictures I saw the Malibu and Coronado differ by the bench seat in the back. This boat has just a bench but it looks like there used to be brackets for the seat backs on it also. The boat also had 2 aluminum plates on it when we got it from sitting in my grandpas field 15 years back that say the maximum engine size for the boat is 40 HP. Anyways, I need help figuring out what year it is, if there is any more information that would help ask and I'll give it if I know. Also there were some letters on the dashboard that end in TO I think, does anyone know what the rest of the word was. Thanks for any info you have, Logan. Also I'll add more photos later to help.

Without seeing the entire side, my guess is 1958.

The front of the side stripe looks like the yellow one in the picture. The paint design changed from year to year.

After looking at some of the threads on here I thought the same thing. This is the best picture of the side I have right now if it helps ID it for sure. Thanks

And here is the ending to the word that I can't figure out if anyone knows what it said.

That looks like a GTO emblem, missing the G of course.

Thanks, but I thought the GTO didn't come out till the 60s. Think this was added by a previous owner of the boat? Cause if it was I won't feel to bad about not replacing it when I fix it up.

It sure looks like a part that came off a car. One way is to take it off and look at the back for part numbers or company logo.
