TOPIC: SEA KING SERIES 9012 ALUMINUM RUNABOUT????

SEA KING SERIES 9012 ALUMINUM RUNABOUT???? 11 years 8 months ago #75492

Friends,

As some of you know, I've been looking for about 60 days for a light aluminum runabout to pull with my 1986 Mercedes 300SDL.

Tonight, I was offered a WHITE with RED deck 14 foot Sea King, series 9012, runabout on a light trailer, that would seem to be light enough to tow with my 148HP diesel saloon.
I believe that it is a 14 foot SEA KNIGHT, but that's only a "SWAG".

Does anyone have a way to identify the year of manufacture and actual maker of this "lapstrake" design hull
(I'm wondering if it was built for Montgomery Ward by Starcraft?)
AND
possibly have a photo of the correct interior, so that I can try to copy it?
(The Sea Kings of that era had a "stick on" foil label, which is missing. Also, I see no sign of a serial number on the starboard side.)

THANKS.

"Sea King" was the Montgomery Ward brand name for their boats, motors and trailers. I have never heard of "Sea Knight" boats.

Just like their fiberglass and wooden boats, I suppose Wards had the aluminum boats made by several different firms.

thompsonboat.

Thanks for your response.
(SEA KNIGHT, based on a factory brochure photo in the Glassics Library, was evidently what the Sea King brand's line of aluminum boats were called.)

thompsonboat; ALL,

I've heard from the OK State Tax Office this morning (03/22/13). - The utility runabout, according to the original sales document (a copy is in the OK State's Tax Office files) from Montgomery Ward to the first owner states that the 15 foot aluminum Series 9012 runabout, serial number 69199x, was built in 1961 & cost 699.oo plus tax.

Unfortunately, OK's DMV has NO record of the trailer any more from 50+ years ago.

NOW I have to find a 1961 SEA KING OB to match the boat/trailer.
