WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE 11 years 7 months ago #75633

Friends,

As I said on anotherthread, I am planning on restoring a 1961 fifteen foot SEA KING aluminum runabout and need INTERIOR PHOTOS of the hull.- The interior is GONE altogether.

Well, not an aluminum model, but here is an ad for a fiberglass 1961 model:

Handy Andy,

The aluminum boats of MW were made by different makers for the catalogue, than the fiberglass ones were.

I really NEED to have a GOOD quality photo for "Traci", the upholstery lady, to copy.

i have had a couple of Sea Kings 62 and 65 aluminum and they were made by Starcraft. You might try looking in the library under Starcraft. My '65 was 14' and it had wood seats. The deluxe had the same seats but were upholstered and I found some fair photos in there. Hope it helps.

1030hugo,

According to what I've read, the '55-'61 Sea Kings were not made by Starcraft. - '62 to sometime later were.
(I'm not at all sure which of 5 companies made the 1961.)

THANKS, satx

Here's a page from the 1961 Recreation and Outdoor catalog from Montgomery Ward. It does show the 9012 and also makes reference to the Sea Knight. It is a rendering of the boat, but I believe that the interior is shown enough to duplicate. I always thought that these were built by StarCraft.

for what it's worth- those are actually STAR CRAFT boats- all three in that aluminum lineup. so that's "who" monkey ward got to shoot them some surplus boats.

i have owned 1960 14' and 18' star crafts and nearly bought a 16' (jupiter or saturn?) and they are REALLY well made boats. the identifying hallmarks are the bow pieces and the transom knees. absolutely star craft.

you should be really happy with the construction of that boat. it will last you a long time.

and you can also view 1960/61 star craft literature and perhaps even get a better close up of how they did the upholstery. i think the only difference in upholstery was that star craft used two tone factory upholstery as the usual color scheme was aqua deck / white hull for a small cluster of years from 1959ish to maybe 1961, but definitely through 1960

just saw that your boat is a 15' and not a 16'. you absolutely have a starcraft JET and that model was made from 59-61. there are loads of pictures of what the interiors look like on the f/g star craft page.

i just know what these star's look like as, like i said, i have owned a few of them. not sure what the "company line" is on the history of m/w using star craft but i implore anyone who doubts to look at pics of a star craft jet 15'- it's the same stuff!
