I can only help from my experience with the Merc 700 I had on my G-3.
As I recall I had the most fun turning a 15" propeller yet the 17" propeller
was fastest. I liked the "sports car" feel the 15" propeller gave and I was water-skiing
a lot in those days. You will probably like the acceleration and feel of power
turning the 17" propeller. You may have to watch how high the RPM's are
while running for any period of time with the 17' however. I was not afraid
to turn my motor at 6000 RPM. It sounded good! Keep us posted.
