The magneto in the distributor was all crumbly thus leaving me with no spark. Anyone know where I can get a magneto?
thx

Jim,
That's in great shape, looks like mine! Not sure about the magneto. Maybe Bruce Gerard knows. I'm going tp start that Fat Fifty hot rod post soon.

Jim, if you can give me the number stamped into the outside of the magneto housing, I'll check Monday and see if we can get you a coil. (Some still available New).

Hey very nice looking motor I just looked at two of those today in Ft Worth. Never seen one in person little bit bigger that what I need. So he said he was going to part um out. Let me know if your still looking. One was on a boat other was out back both looked ok pulled one felt good compression and free.

You should be able to use and mag off a V4 on that if I remember right
And I have one of those motors. I took the reed out of one of my dead V4 75hp and put in it. waiting for the parts to make it a short shaft.

Jim,
Good to hear you get her running. I expect a fuel pump rebuild is probably in order.

Yes I already have it out and I am looking for the kit. I have it around somewhere. I did locate a few carb parts on flea bay as well for the just in case. I will need an impeller regardless of pumping or not. I just do not know how old it is.

In this thread, I see talk about the good looking motor etc. Where are the pictures posted at? They don't show up on my screen or I don't see a place to view them at.

All it shows is your first post to this thread, but there are no attachments or pictures shown. Is there something to click on to to get them to appear?

Must be something wrong with my set up on the computer. I have now noticed in other threads on this website, that there are mentions of the boat, motor, etc. and there are no pictures at all for me to see. It is only on this website that I have noticed it. I have no idea why though.

my manual does not have these specifications.
I need the torq spec for the heads along with the tightening pattern also I need to know how the internal harness gets wired. Neither of the V-4 50's I have had the internal harness. Red to starter black to ground which one goes to the choke and which one grounds out the distributor or do you have to choke these mortors to make them stop????
thx!

Hey Jim, the torque specs and wiring diagram are contained in the repair manual Andgott has posted on his website;
www.agott.com/glassboat/Manuals/Johnson3m.pdf
(They're in the library here too, but I couldn't get them to come up there?)
Not sure about the sequence, maybe somebody can enlighten on that.

Head torque pattern is start at either one of the center bolts and work your way out in a spiral pattern until you end up at the top or bottom. Check out my posts on hot rodding the Fat Fifty. I put the pattern in there I think, with numbers and arrows if I remember right. Believe I also posted the toque numbers.

Mine sounds just like that. It is on my 60 Larson All-American.
I don't know if I will beef it up or not. Either way I'm going to put her in the water this spring. I didn't use it last summer.

thanks guys. it does run pretty silky smooth. I know it is going to need a bit more carb adjustment on a boat but she does sound nice. wish i could have got this particular package together. Not sure if I am going to do any boating again this year.
