Thanks Bob, I sure hope so. The carbs are rebuilt and re-installed, they didn't look too bad. (Looked like someone had rebuilt them somewhere along the line, I used the OMC kits with new floats to ensure longevity - HOPEFULLY.) They fuel pump however, didn't look like it had ever been apart. Full of junk, corrosion, etc.........fresh kit in and going back on with it now. (Could have had something to do with why she didn't want to idle very well!?)

The control box wouldn't engage forward gear, trim switch stuck on when you selected "up", just needed some TLC......... Some cleaning and adjustment........ And a new TH Marine T&T switch since the OMC original is NLA Ready for testing first warm day we get...... :P

Now that everything (almost) is working properly, I've decided to tear the control box back down for a fresh paint job. It dawned on me that the PO or someone has removed the temp warning buzzer. I think the temp warning is a good thing to have, even if you're running a water pressure gauge as I also plan to do. It looks to me from the wiring diagram in the manual that the purple wire (from the switch) would be hot (when the key is on), and the tan wire coming from the temp sensors grounds out when activated to complete the circuit?

Also planning to run a tilt/trim gauge, and it appears to get it's operating voltage (current) from the purple wire? Does this sound right? There are two wires coming from the tilt/trim sensor switch, and I guess that purple feed would work from any switched source? Reading wiring diagrams has never been one of my strong suits, any help given would be greatly appreciated. ;)

Mission complete, ready to mount. Not a true "restoration" paint job by any means, but I like it and it will go well on either of my boats.

Wow, nice project.
That compression is great. Keep that puppy tuned and serviced and you'll have to buy a lot of fuel to equal the expense of an Etec.
What gold paint did you use?

Thanks guys, I appreciate it. It's not a professional job but I'm fairly happy with the results. I used a rattle can Bill, the gold turned out "brighter" than I expected. (The cap of the can looked a little more subdued.) Three coats of paint followed by three coats of clear.

First time trying it, but JB Weld worked great at filling in the holes in the AV plate left by PO installing a whale tale.
