mitchelbrink81,

of course it's possible. - assuming that the 18HP has decent compression, my guess is that a COMPLETE new ignition system (about 50 bucks worth of SIERRA parts from the local NAPA store), a carb clean and/or rebuild, conversion to a fuel pump system (from the current "pressure tank" format), a new waterpump impellor, fresh paint (out of a spray can) & a set of decals will do the trick. - assuming that you do your own work, i'd guess that it will cost about 100-150 bucks to update & re-finish it.

as for after restoration value, i would guess perhaps 20-25% of the cost of a new 25HP OB.

when you finish, you will have an OB that will outlast YOU. - the old OMC two-bangers are TOUGH.

NOTE: if you don't have a copy of CHEAP OUTBOARDS: The Beginner's Guide to Making an Old Motor Run Forever, by Max E. Wawrzyniak III, GET ONE.
(that ONE book & a handful of screwdrivers/wrenches/maintainence parts is ALL you need to fix & re-finish your OB, imVho.)

yours, satx
