TOPIC: 59 Golden Jubilee questions. 35 hp

59 Golden Jubilee questions. 35 hp 11 years 9 months ago #74413

On my flywheel is a cogged center piece that looks like it had tow screws in it one time. It will turn on the wheel. Should it have screws?

Second can anyone tell me what the two wires here are for? You can see them going into the connection box. My finger is on them.

I have more later. The only other Johnson I've had was an old 5 horse about 1952. It seems like a pretty easy motor to work on and I like it. I just rebuilt the carb and fuel pump. Now I'm checking the coils and points. They all look new to me. Nice and clean. This one is a 35 hp.

Thanks in advance.

There is a good spark at both plugs.

The "clogged" center piece is for driving a generator it should have some Allen screws holding it in place

Those wires look to be the ones for hooking up a Generator. A Generator was an add on. They were not standard equipment

While you had the carb apart did you coat the float?

The old cork floats will not last long with Ethanol that we now have in most fuel

Yes I got a brand new float from Jim and I am very happy. It under float shellac post in the main forum. I was thinking perhaps that cogged wheel was for something like that. It does make sense to me. I thank you much for your info.
