Took the Evinrude Starflite to the lake today for a ride. Start off was a little shaky with hard cold start and slightly rough running then after a while, it smoothed out and ran great! I feel more like touching up the paint now I know that it will run decent lol.Got a movie for those that are not tired of seeing my old junk.

Sounds like she smoothed right out Jim, nice video. Looks like a pretty "pristine" survivor, a great find IMHO. I never get tired of watching stuff like this, thanks for sharing! ;)

Thanks Mark, the camera flatters the paint on this one lol.Got a lot of green primer showing through. When I started out, it didn't want to idle smooth at all.Towards the end of the trip,it really accelerated well and was really idling even. The hardest thing for me to get used to is the push button shifter. I'm used to the johnson single lever and and just pulling the throttle back to neutral. I kept forgetting to push a button to get it in neutral LOL.

I don't care what anyone else says, those old v-4s are smooth and quiet once sorted out. They are no slouch either for their year. Very enjoyable motors. Your boat looks like it responds well with that motor.

I feel the same way. I've always heard people kick the older v-4s, particularly the electric shifts. I actually prefer them. Yeah, the boat does good with the v-4, Thanks.

Wow, that's is your $100.00 parts motor from your other thread right?
You must have been smiling, pretty high return on investment...
To me any engine that runs, is reliable, puts a smile on your face is a friend. I've picked up several old motors either V4 or Merc inline or Homelite and had success stories too. Like you, on the two strokes I run them first tank rich on oil too.
Sounds nice.

Yes Bill, that's it. I give $100 for it actually wanting the LU for a spare.Discovered someone had just put a new (at the time $ 100) OMC water pump kit on it,so I felt like I basically had bought a new water pump kit. Boat was already set up for a '62 johnson electric shift. I did get a selectric shift box off of ebay for it. The smiles got bigger as the motor started running better LOL.
