TOPIC: Sunk 87 Evinrude

Sunk 87 Evinrude 11 years 3 months ago #80844

Friend of mine away for the weekend came home to find his boat sunk at the dock thanks to 5 inchs of rain from a thunderstorm . We got it up and out of the water on the trailer , engine spins over but no spark . Boat was sunk for about a day and its been high and dry for another ... any ideas of why no spark ? we'd like to get it fired up ! Soon as it was out plugs were pulled and engine spun over and oiled up to protect it ... ideas ?

might pull apart all the electrical connections and blow them out nice and dry.. possible the coils or power pack got damaged under water...but since it isnt running yet just keep it WELL oiled because rust is like a canser....and make sure you pull and drain and clean out the carb..

Pull the fly wheel and let the sun dry it out for a few days. Hopefully you did not short anything our putting power to it while everything was wet

Good Deal! Did you take it out and run it? If not, you need to run the P*ss out of it, 'cause any water left in the innards will settle to the bottom and rust away the lower crankshaft bearing.

Take 'er out, run around at a fairly high throttle setting for at least 20 minutes, and any residual moisture should be "burnt" outta there.
