Hello,

Is the motor in the picture an original racing motor?

Thanks, Taco.

in my mind (which is not all that good) I thought the stinger was only a Johnson motor, and a 3 cylinder. I also think that an evinrude was called a thriumph. I may be all wrong. and there are more members that will know for sure. frog

I found out on the internet that it is the V4 motor. The hood is the louvered one. The Johnson decal was replaced at a time by an evinrude decal on the pictured motor. The Evinrude version was called a strangler. I like to know if this motor is in the price range of a Mercury 1500XS.
thanks, Taco.

The motor as pictured is available for € 2000,= or $ 2,741.00 I have not bought it yet as it is only interesting for me when I can trade it for a Merc 1500XS. I still waiting for an answer if the Johnson is the 8 carburetor modell. I know rhe motor is "stuck" and a coil seems to be missing.

WOW, that's a pretty hefty (high) price IMHO. I realize it's not a commonly found motor, and may very well have a racing or at least "hot rod" heritage. But for a seized motor, incomplete, and in very questionable condition (good chance the internals are worn out or just plain shot) it just seems awfully pricey to me. Please keep in mind I'm often accused of being "overly frugal" (translates = cheap old man), so it's just my two cents worth. ;)

Good luck Taco, I hope you're able to strike a good deal on it.

Hi Mark, Yes i know, the price is way to high. The seller is thinking it is a 245 HP motor. No response to my questions also so I think i let it pass by. Keep in mind that vintage outboards are much higher priced here in Europe than in the USA as there are not that many around. Sometimes it is cheaper to buy "a high priced motor" here than in the US.The costs for transport, crating, shipping and customs are minimum $750.00 for any outboard.
