twin 18 cylinder horizontally opposed 3200 HP Napier Deltic Motors pushed her 45 or so knots. John Patnovic of Great Oak MD bought one with a bunch of the motors. Not sure if he ever got it going.
We had PT 305 there prior to her going to Texas before she eventually went to the D-day Museum. 305 was cut down to 63 feet and the D-Day now has her back out to 78 feet again.

it only takes a BOT LOAD of money to restore these beauties!!

305 when we found her
305 after we removed a whole bunch of crap...you can see her awesome lines returning at this point. 305 at Long Cove Marina 305 just before the charhouse was removed so she could to to Galveston. She at the time belonged to DOANM and then when things were not working out she went over to the D-Day.

PT boats are the most awesome of these. My father served on two of them, both got sunk in the Med during WWII, I have the commissioning flag for one of them, don't know the hull numbers though. He had bullet and shrapnel scars all over his body from those times.

Wow. Tough duty. No protection on these boats. The boat I was trying to get together for restore the 761 boat was supposedly supposed to be the 1st commissioned with armor around the charthouse.
Not that I have been able to get out there myself but you should try to go visit PT 658 in Oregon. Higgins PT 658 running on 3 Packard 5M 2500's. They have done beautiful work to her. My goal with the 761 was to restore and operate her as a museum boat but I just couldn't get the talent or money together.

Thx for sharing that about your father.

Andreas,

That looks like a 59-61 Rambler Cross Country station wagon. The boat is 61 so the car is probably the same.
Luckily that ramp isn't too steep.
Having driven a similar model, I think they they would have a fun time trying to get a 22 foot boat up any kind of a ramp.
Power was not Ramblers strong suit.
Great photo!

The Rambler straight 6 had some good torque. A st.6 has more torque per HP than a V8

Another along the same line.

A boat was made for the VW Vans, not sure who.

It was on wheels for unloading. Pic not working.

Looks like puttin' the hull under the bus ended up in the weeds.

The trailer also has a boat on top.

Another Trailer with a boat on top.

Great pictures!!! Lets keep them coming. The first one is my '59 Thompson Sea Lancer in 1976 pulling 6 skiers when the neighbor still owned it. I am the one on this side. The other one is our maiden voyage after I bought it in the spring of 2008. My helper is my son who is 15 now and over 6 ft tall.

This a a version of the boats that the Marinette Boat Works in Marinette, Wisconsin is building for the government. They got a contract that will keep them busy for several years. They have several versions on this same hull, depending on what they are going to be used for. This is about a quarter mile down river from where the Thompson Boat Rally is held. As for size, Check out the 16' Thompson Sea Coaster in the foreground.

Neil, let me jump on the bandwagon here and thank you enormously for starting this thread. Great stuff start to finish. In fact, notwithstanding some gorgeous pix of alot of boats, my vote for Best In Show was for the very first picture on this thread. That is until Catfink posted the pic of the woodie in the canal with the footbridge in back. WOW!! Catfink, if you would just e-mail me the address of that place I'm gonna go move in today. Who wouldn't want to live there? Anyway, many thanks to everyone. Nice stuff.

That's at Marinette Marine Corporation and the ship is a LCS - Littoral Combat Ship. It's a really fast coastal type vessel, sorta like PT boats of WW II - but on steroids.
