TOPIC: 1150 or 1500 Inline

1150 or 1500 Inline 10 years 2 months ago #99397

Just trying to figure out what I have here. 1960's 15' Swiftcraft with a 15" transom height. there is no serial number plate on the tilt tube and no serial number stamping on the rh side of the block which probably means it was replaced.

Things I know;
1) Short shaft motor with power trim
2) 77-78 decals?
3) 1150 cowl wrap
4) 1500 lower cowl piece
5) Single fuel pump
6) Looks like 3/8" spacing between holes in cylinders lh side
7) Back draft style carbs
8) Early 70's front cover
9) two pole tach was stamped 76 0n the back

It looks a lot like my '77 1150.

Yep Bill it looks like that date, but was a 1150 available in short shaft after 72?

See the attached picture for a great way to separate an 1150 from a 1500.
The decals shown are '76-'77
The short mid-housing and lower unit will work under the '73-'88 1150 & others, including a 900, 90, 1150, 115, 1400, 140, & 1500.

Thanks Doc they are WMK 18's. So looks like a short shaft 1976/77 1150. :)
Great motors these things, easy to work on and look and sound sensational. This one came from the salt, fair amount of corrosion so I hope I don't have to work on the block and covers any time soon

Thank's GM Jim. yeah it was a suprise that it was a short motor. I'm down in Victoria at Mornington on the Morningington Peninsula.Getting ready for Snapper season and AFL grand final

Sadly this motor has seen 38 years of salt use. The back water cover is corroded and there is a fine crack in the block on the rh side which leaks water. Both are sealed with an epoxy mix. Will need a new block and covers one day.

Spring is finally here!!

I have just what you need - a brand new old stock 115 complete powerhead (#7401) for any 1973-1979 Mercury 115. This is not rebuilt, remanufactured or anything like that. My Mercury dealer ordered it from the factory for a job, and then the customer walked, so I bought it from them. It must have been one of the last ones they made for replacements.

It is a brand new powerhead, with a date of manufacture stamped on it as 1989, never installed or used.

Any interest?
