TOPIC: Project Swiftcraft Johnson 70hp

Project Swiftcraft Johnson 70hp 9 years 1 month ago #106422

Hi there I was wondering if anyone could help me out getting a model number off my Johnson 70hp 3cy 2-stroke, I think it's 84 but tag is worn away. Im restoring a 1965 Swift Craft at the moment.

You might be able to narrow it down by comparing your motor's layout and things like carbs and other bolt ons, using marineengine.com. They have great diagrams for these motors in the parts search area.

I have an 84 70hp, so if you need to compare any areas with mine just post a photo.

I think most OMC's have the serial number stamped on the engine somewere - maybe in a welch plug? That would help with the id, I'd look it over carefully.

I think Mark's right. I heard somewhere that it's on a welch plug. If it weren't raining, windy and cold out, I'd run out and look mine over for the location.

It should be at the top of the block near the cyl head. Might be covered by hoses/wires.
