TOPIC: TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB??

TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB?? 9 years 2 months ago #115970

Friends & admirers of Texas Maid boats,

Are any of you owners/lovers of TEXAS MAID boats interested in starting (or re-starting, as there once was a TM club, which is defunct.) a TEXAS MAID MARQUE CLUB??

Personally, I think that we need an organized group to help each other, to preserve what little factory information still exists & to promote shows for Texas Maid boats.

jbcurt00,

Mainly the TAHITI & FIESTA have portholes. - The FALCON & OSPREY do NOT.

Btw, I know where there is a nice FALCON on a tilt trailer for 300.oo = The FALCON is a fairly rare little runabout/utility.

Re: TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB?? 9 years 2 months ago #116396

Current utility boats in the jbcurt fleet:
1951 Studebaker Model 11, 11ftr
1954 Feathercraft Topper 12ftr w optional center deck (makes it a split cockpit of sorts) Only 1 I've ever seen.
1971 (+/-) Feathercraft Fisher 13ftr
1991 Sylvan Seabreeze (11' 9")

Plus a few other boats.

I am not in the market. 300 sounds like a pretty good price though.

For my own piece of mind:
Not in the market
NOT in the market
Not IN the market
NOT IN THE MARKET

Ok, that ^^^^ should help it stick :)

There was an Osprey 5 or 6hrs from here at some point in the last 9 months or so. Its was R O U G H rough and the seller had it priced at 1000 IIRC. Way too much for it so I didnt even call about it.

I got my fin fix w a 1957 Feathercraft Clipper.

Good luck drumming up some Texas Maid support. I'd certainly enjoy any posts and pix.

Have a great weekend. Got the Sylvan loaded and the fishing gear staged. Come on midday Fri.

jbcurt00,

This FALCON is NICE, though NOT in a factory color. = Sea-foam Blue with blue/white interior. - NEEDS a suitable OB & little more than that.

My OSPREY is UNMODIFIED & will be RED/WHITE with RED/WHITE upholstery. - It needs a windshield & new seats to be correct.

satx,

I have a '61 Texas Maid Tahiti with the original paint scheme waiting to be done back at the farm in western Pennsylvania. Working on a
60 Lone Star El Dorado and a '59 Lone Star Newport. So I like the Texas boats as well. Have never heard of a Texas Maid club. I used to check out the Lone Star club online, but I wonder if it is now defunct? Don't know.

Re: TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB?? 9 years 2 months ago #116445

boatman,

LUCKY you finding a TAHITI. = At least in South Texas, there seems to be NONE anymore.
(I looked for one for over 3 years with NO luck whatever.)

FIESTA hulls are uncommon here but "around" if you look.
OSPREY hulls in original/restorable condition are much harder to find than the FIESTA.
FALCON hulls are even harder to find, as few were ever made & there are a LOT FEWER in 2015.
(IF I had a place to put it, the FALCON that I found would be mine. - I can have ONE boat/motor/trailer on this property.)

The LONE STAR Club is (at least 90 days ago) still around as a "group" on yahoo.com
and
There once was a TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB but it seems to be defunct.
(I've found nothing about the club in about 10-15 years.)

Re: TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB?? 9 years 2 months ago #116453

satx,

I searched for a Tahiti for a long while. Found this one near Dallas and was lucky to have a nice guy pull it up to Chicago for me when he was driving up to buy a early 60's Crownline from me. Haven't had the Texas Maid in the water yet. Needs everything on the inside, floor, flotation, seats, steering, motor. Picked up a Gale Sovereign 60 hp so it will match the black and white boat and look just like the catalog picture. Has the original windshield and paint scheme, so should be an easy redo. From what I've read, Texas Maid was formed by the founders of Lone Star boats after they sold that firm. Both are well made boats.

Good luck with your Osprey.

boatman,

Thanks for the good wishes.

TEXAS MAID was formed in 1958 by former employees of LONE STAR & some other folks too.

satx,
What year is your Osprey? Just bought a '61 TM catalog and would be happy to post some scans if you don't have any catalog info.

Re: TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB?? 9 years 2 months ago #116516

boatman,

Frankly, I'm not at all sure which year that it is. - The TX title says 1959 but the TPWD records have about as many errors as correct data.

Please scan/post your brochure.

The hull number is 1657.

Re: TEXAS MAID OWNER'S CLUB?? 6 years 10 months ago #135678

Count me in. I have a 1965 Impala. I know where there is a TM up on its side so I can't count portholes.
I'm looking for an Electra so I can put both of my 75 hp Scott/Atwaters on it.
I talked to the salesman that sold TM the fiberglass and resin to the factory and he said that the way they determined how many HP to install was they would take the new designed boats to the coast and beat the crap out of them. Then they would bring the
boats back up to Lewisville Tx about 100 yards off of I35 and hwy 121 and redesign what was wrong.
My brother worked for them for about a year as a painter and assembler.

..For what it's worth, I always keep an eye out for TM boats... I do have a '58 'Bahama', that's ready for resto, I've had it out a few times, as is, with the faded 'battleship' grey paint... I use it to try out my vintage motors...

What can y'all tell me about this little guy? Looks similar to an Electra but has some differences from the other year models i have seen images of. It says Texas Maid 1966 on side.
