TOPIC: Year, Horn and prop

Year, Horn and prop 13 years 4 months ago #39195

Three questions:
1) My G3 is hull 250 and my dad always said it was a 1959. Does anyone have a hull greater than 250 that is a 1959.

2) The air canister that threads onto the horn is gone. The canisters you buy today at the marine store have a smaller fitting. Any idea how I should approach this? Do I buy an adapter?

3) I have a 1965 Mercury 50hp short shaft on the boat. I've done a little bit of searching for correct prop, but figure I'd ask all of you. Do any of you have a similar size motor and have a great prop suggestion.

Hi Jason,

My 1959 G3 is hull 225 (HIN G3A9225). However, G3Bill sent me these photos from another G3 that answers your question 1; yes.

In the photos below you see the 1959 HIN mediallion that indicates G3A9605, which indicates:
Model: G3
MFG plant: (A) Santa Ana, CA
Model Year: (9) 1959
Hull number of the model year: 605

As I understand it, in 1959 the G3 was only manufactured in Santa Ana. Beginning in 1960 they were manufacturered in all other Glasspar plants.

Look up under the center deck, the round Hull Identification Number (HIN) medallion should be on the port side, next to the seat bolt.

In 1960 and later, the HIN was a rectangular "Glasspar" medallion located on the port side of the forward cockpit.

There are some other indicators that folks who are smarter than I, can tell you what to look for to identify the differences between '59 and the later center deck years.

Below are Bill's photos...

I'm not sure that round washer was used on all g3's prior to mounting on the inside of top deck. Some pic's would help, again, SOME PIC"S WOULD HELP!
