First, happy mid Winter...if such a thing is possible with the lakes frozen over and our G3's stored away...(somehow, sitting in my G3 with a fan sitting on the bow blowing on me and my DW squirting a bit of water in my face just doesn't compare to a ride on the open water..... :( )

My question is this.. Has anyone mounted a kicker motor on their G3? I live in fear of getting out on the lake and suffering a breakdown (the motor, not me lol!) with no one around to offer a tow! Attempting to paddle a G3 is more than a little frustrating. I have a 1978 Johnson 85hp and it chews up most of the room on the transome, leaving precious little room for even a little Minkota electric. What do you do? if anything..?

Wow, not the sexiest idea I have ever heard of for a G3!

If you are that worried, you could pick up a transom mount trolling motor, and shove it up under the front deck for safe keeping. If you need it, pull it out, clamp it on, hook it up to your battery and away you go!

I have owned 2 85hp johnsons and only had 1 issue, a leaky T&T, but neither ever let me down though 1 ate me outa house & home with the fuel mileage! I do have a pic of a G3 with an extra motor on the side,Ill try to post it- its not mine!

My first thought on reading the title:
"Lost at sea.. or..."
was
the post would be a question on where the heck is everybody at.
lost at sea..... or?
Been awfully quiet around here these days.
For myself, have not done anything G-wise other than chipping ice from around the hull yesterday.
Did "touch" the predictor, only to adjust the cover.
Have longingly "hoped" for the advent of spring....and boating possibilities.....

To the subject at hand.
I suppose having a electric rower on board is an ok idea.
That assumes of course, the potential failure your attempting to alleviate is NOT an electrical one.
My idea
Find another G-3 enthusiast in the area.
A wing-man if you will.
For the sake of competition, you could make sure they have a merc!
See who, tows in who....
Plus, you would be fostering the hobby and G-3 awareness.
Like I always say,
"The only thing better than a good cigar, is, two of them."

regards
lar
btw, where in the heck is everybody?

Right here Lar, sitting on the back porch in 30 degree N. Florida weather, looking at my Merc powered G-3. I would be totally embarassed to show up at the water with a trolling motor on it!!! IF it were to stop on me, (very, very doubtful it ever will), I will either have a chase boat friend around or use the cell phone!!!

Do any of you all realize what a G-3, running 2 mph with a trolling motor, would look like?????? Be kinda like towing a Chevy 'Vette with a riding lawn mower!!

I have a nice paddle that has been wet once in 7 years after we ran out of fuel!!!
