TOPIC: Gas in oil

I found out I'm getting gas in my oil. I checked with Bill R. He said fuel pump. So I replaced it with the one that was on my 1970 Bearcat. Still getting gas in oil any ideas? I'm still stumped.

Not directly applicable to an outboard... but in one of my inboard engines (GM 229 CI - V6) my oil level kept rising. Turns out I had a bad carb that would drain its bowl into the intake manifold when the engine was shut down... then into the cylinders and past the rings into the oil. The engine ran fine when it was running. I scratched my head a lot over this, until a mechanic suggested the carb may be the problem (fuel pumps can leak gas into the oil, but I have external electric fuel pumps). I replaced the carb and the problem went away. I never did forensics on the carb before I exchanged it for the core charge.

Mine seems to get into the oil while running. Maybe the replacement pump is bad too!

I had that same problem and it was the fuel pump diaphragm. It had a hole in it. I would suggest taking the four screws out that hold the pump together. It will come apart in two half's. It may want stick together and you will not wreck the diaphragm taking it apart. If half the diaphragm sticks to each half take a razor knife and shave it away from one of the sides. Then check to see if the diaphragm has a crack/hole in it.

I'm thinking I got the problem solved.
The fuel pump from my 1970 Bearcat is working fine on my 62 Homelite. I checked the oil level two days in a row and it seemed OK. I even left the fuel line connected to the tank. Oil level was the same as the day before. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Might put an electric one on the Bearcat when I get it ready for a boat.
