TOPIC: Homelite tach hook up?

Homelite tach hook up? 12 years 1 week ago #69522

I scored this from someone that didn't have a homelite motor.
Now I need to know how to hook it up. I would say one wire to postive side of coil and the other to ground. But which side of tach is postive and the other ground?.Oh and the needel moves

Path, nice score! You can test it. I wont ruin the tach. Take two wires and hook them on the tach, one on each pole. Connect one to the negative side of the coil and then touch the other wire on the motor to ground it. The needle should move up, if not, then switch position on the ground/coil. Never to the positive side of the coil. That hole in the middle of the tach, I think is for a light.

I think I can understand that and yes I figured out the hole was for a light

The Tach wires in series with the ignition wire on the ignition switch. Disconnect the orange wire from the ignition switch and hook it to one side of the tach, hook a wire from the other side of tach back to the ignition switch where you removed the orange wire. Mine has a sticker on it that states "Guarantee void if connected to distributor or ground". I believe BillR posted wiring instructions in a previous post.

And here it is:
