Guy in MI has a short shaft 55 says is in good shape, he want's someone to save it. Anyone interested?
Where is Dave this year? Usually we get pontoon boat pics. Or ice fishing pics haha!
Drove my 14T tonight for a bit, boy these motors are nice for putting around.
I had a bit over 30 on the gps wide open, but 20mph at 3300 and I like it down there best as engine is quiet. My prop shaft is bent a bit so some vibes at higher rpm, my fault I hurriedly put the lower unit together and didn't check the propshaft first....but hey the boat and motor are wet n happy.
I haven't used a tank yet. Crazy.

Exactly my thoughts since it is fairly local!
Emailed you both putting you in touch, let us know how you make out.

I drove mine last night. But I suppose you're outrunning us all out there? Your weather been hot? How about some pics of your latest "daily driver"!!

Hi guys,
It's in Brighton MI, not sure how far from TX but might be close to Dave, the guy is at less time 77 and is on g mail.
I know Greg emailed me earlier about it, if you guys email me will forward info to you but that email should get to him too.

Nice motorhome Dave, big adventures in it??!! Run your Bearcat at all this summer? I think you put the newer one on and have the 62 in the shop right?
Satx, yeah there's a powercat I want in Alvarado TX but getting it here is a problem so I know the feeling.
I have another big Bearcat on the way, all rebuilt.
I also have a guy coming to look at my Skagit, I'm going multihull.
Keeping the Dolphin though.
So that's my neck of the woods love to hear about everyone else's midlife crisis adventures.

billr,

I don't know if I've ever told you but my nearly mint GEORGE JETSON 55 was stolen, when we were at the funeral of my dearest friend. = The house was burglarized & mostly "cleaned out" of our best stuff (including Sarah's jewelry), including our NEW & BIG TV. Then the burglars "trashed" everything else.
I thought that I would literally have to put Sarah (my "sister of the heart") to bed, as she "came apart" emotionally for a spell.

That is called a DOUBLE WHAMMY.

Btw, I've never found a Homelite as nice/original since, though I keep looking.

Thanks for the information Bill. I went back and forth with the owner a few times. Its an "OK" motor without a fuel pump/sediment bowl. He was looking for $600 I was thinking $200. We parted friends.

Yes, no fuel pump I saw that too.
When he first called I told him $50 to $650 in general, so guessing he thinks there are "collectors" out there. I imagine it will be down to $200 in a couple weeks, or he might just keep it and run it too. I get a few guys that have an entire package, then buy a boat/trailer cheap and mount her up. Then they never sell it.
I have a Bearcat coming my way soon, rebuilt with all new stainless steel valves etc. So I have been busy out here. Getting one of my boats ready for pickup too, so didn't get any time on the water this weekend. Dammit!

Cool Bill, I can't recall but I think one of your highly restored fleet is running a Bearcat right? Do you also have a Fageol powered boat, can't remember.
I was told by a retired factory rep that towards the end of the production run, less than 5% of the motors were short shaft so for old glassics they are a nice option provided the boat will support the weight.
My 14T supports my shorty 55 no problem at all.
Hey, I'm surprised you haven't snagged that wild Dodge boat up in Ontario area, the 58 Dodge looking catamaran with headlights??
I see that old Pontiac that looks like your Samoan running around up here on occasion, I always think of your boat!

Glad a Homelite/Bearecat collector got it.
Hope to do more next season with mine. I run it on my pontoon 8" 4 blade. Which I got from Bill.

Hey Dave,
Your Bearcat is basically color matched to your pontoon party boat, never noticed that before.
Is that the newer motor you picked up the other year?
You still have the old 62 also right?
That motorhome have a 460 engine in it?

Re:short shaft 11 years 3 months ago #83196

Hi Bill,
Yes I guess it is color matched.
Yes that is the 1970 Bearcat according to the serial number,
The motor home has a V-10 in it. 6.? Liter
I still have the 62 Homelite. Having fuel in oil issues.
The Bearcat is overheating. I don't know if I put the thermostat assembly back together wrong. Sometimes it pumps fine and sometimes not. I know the overheat horn works. I am using the old style control box.
Could I run it without the thermostat stuff?
I know the Homelite didn't have a thermostat.
Dave
