TOPIC: 1971 Johnson 50hp -fuel pump?

1971 Johnson 50hp -fuel pump? 9 years 3 months ago #113650

Hello.
I have a 1971 Johnson 50hp. I've used it the last couple of summers. This year I started it up a couple of times in the driveway briefly. Replaced the throttle cable and I wanted to test it out. I launched the boat and attempted to start it. It ran for a few seconds and died. I haven't been able to start it since.
I replaced the fuel lines with clear ones so that I can see if its moving. The fuel was not going past the fuel pump. A friend rebuilt it for me with a kit. I reinstalled it and still no start. I removed the line from the carburetor and fuel just dribbles out as I crank the motor.
How much fuel should shoot out of this line from the pump?
There is lots of spark and compression. Bowls on carbs are empty.

Thanks.

Take the pump apart again and make sure the passages aren't blocked some how. Make sure they all get blown out. If you had an old hose breaking down a small piece could have come off and gotten lodged in there.

Hi guys.
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my issue.

I Replaced every fuel line between the tank and carburetor. Fuel was still not getting into the carburetor. I took apart the fuel pump that my friend rebuilt for me and I found that he put one of the springs in the wrong spot (after I searched for a diagram online).
Fuel still wasn't going into the carbs! I took off both carbs and found that the float valves were stuck in both of them!
I put it all back together and it started right up. I was so relieved that I found the problem.
