TOPIC: 59 Super Seahorse wiring

59 Super Seahorse wiring 9 years 1 month ago #116033

Is the external plug for motor control still available? I've been looking online and I find internal harnesses but not the boat side. Also, I have wiring diagrams but I'm not sure of which pin on the connector goes to what. I assume that the largest pin goes to the starter, but I don't know if I'm interpreting the others correctly.

Is this correct?

Besides finding a used harness, they are not available. A fellow in Canada offers a very nice reproduction: nymarine.ca/wiringharness.htm

Dave, if you have a multimeter/ohm meter it's easy to just trace the wires. Put one probe on the pin and touch the internal connections on the motor until you find continuity.

I guess I'll keep searching for a used one. That's a nice looking harness, but almost equals what i paid for the motor.

Multimeter sounds like a simple solution. I'll give that a try.

Not sure if this is of use to anyone else, but I thought I'd share what I found. Far left is ground and plug mount. Large one in the center is hot to starter. Top left goes to vacuum cutout. Top right goes to generator. Row below starter, left goes to generator, right goes to mercury switch. Bottom row, left goes to magneto, right goes to choke.

Dave, you nailed it. Gotta clean up those pins though. I found that if you wrap some steel wool around a small stick you can poke around and clean 'em up pretty good, do the same with the female end, I then blow out the steel fibers, wipe down with some type of thinner and coat them with dielectric grease. Regular Vaseline works in a pinch.

I've got the plug disconnected from the motor right now so cleaning the pins should be easy. Unfortunately, I don't have the female end, so unless I can find a used one, I'll just make something up.
