In restoring my daughter's boat we may have the option of rebuilding her Sportfour 60 or tuning and using a Starflite 75. Is one more desirable than the other, hp aside?

I would prefer the electric shift of the starflite, but I'm sure I swim against the tide of popular opinion. The push button shifter works great. My 2 cents

Jim, I like the 'letric shifters. Had a bunch of 'em without problems. I do have a lower unit for the starflite 75 manual shift if anyone is interested.

Cal,I've been running my electrics all my boating "career" lol and the only time I had trouble was when my shift cable burnt in two on the forward wire and that was yours truly s fault. Didn't get the protective cover all the way up the cable to keep it cool in the exhaust housing

Jim, no grinding gears, no clunking, easy peasy. Keep up maintenance, simple gear lube change, some cleaning of switches.

Help me guys, I think I have a problem...I can't stop looking at Evinrudes, and they keep getting bigger...

Now I found a nice old boat that the seller claims is super clean and has a slightly newer Evinrude 4cyl (it doesn't have that sexy 60's looking cowl) but has power tilt/trim. But it's an 85hp (Alaina's boat is rated for 70hp. Am I getting out of hand?

We are putting in a new transom on her boat...and gas tank in the bow to offset weight...can she handle the 85?

If it doesn't sink you'll be good. Watch the corners
Seriously, overpowering is not a good option unless your very experienced on the water. I had a 70hp 'rude on a very light 14' crestliner, went like a bat out of ... but scary at high speed.

If you really want to get out of hand I have a '73 Rude 135hp that would probably fit.

I replied in the other section - I'd say no for now...

Well, negotiations continue, and the Starflite is now twice what I offered...not sure I want it that badly.

Waiting until Monday to make any decisions.

I know it's not Monday, but I decided to go ahead and buy the Larson with the 75hp Starflite today. I have it in the shop now, and it's actually a really neat little boat!

Took it out for a test run tonight, and it runs like a new motor! Shifter works perfectly too!
