Is anyone familiar this motor? I acquired it along with a Seafair Sedan a few months ago and after replacing the floor and seating am preparing to get it wet. Would like to check a wiring diagram to be certain that I have all of the wires in the right places as I don't want to screw anything up. I have on order a 1998 parts book and a 1999 Service Manual (could not locate a 1998)hoping they are alike or at least similar enough that I can get by. I noticed that the engine id plate is missing so I do not know what the serial number is and can not find another at any of the forum referred locations, any ideas? What I did find is a paper sticker on the top of the motor which reads:
PGM VER # 3030042
PGM REV # 94873
06-17-1998 23:29:51
Any ideas as to what this means?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Jack

Those are the computer's program parameters.
Regarding the serial number, it should be stamped on a welch plug somewhere on the engine block also. Why do you believe it is a 1998 model? BTW, OMC model numbers are typically more important than serial numbers.

Early Fichts (OMC built ones)don't have a good reputation. Typically they were bad immediately and are long gone or were good from day one & still in operation. Parts are becoming problematic to find.

The computers program parameters indicate 1998. Where would I look for model number?
Thanks

The only place the model number would be is on the placard on the transom bracket. The serial number would be there & on the welch plug.

An Evinrude dealer should be able to work backwards to find the model number front the serial number.

Thanks folks I appreciate your help. Working with the Outboard Wizzard also and he thinks he may be able to do something with some pictures, we'll see tomorrow.

Early Fichts (OMC built ones)don't have a good reputation.

Jimandros is correct. They did have some serious problems, mostly with leaky fuel lines and a few fires. In 2000, I and a co-worker from the USCG investigated a complaint from a dealer. Hey, if the dealers are complaining you know there are problems. They used all plastic fuel system components. The connectors were snap on connections and had a bad habit of coming loose. So be careful. Make sure everything is installed correctly and double check all the fuel lines and connections.

A few years later they completely re-designed them and the problems went away.

Thank you for your concern. I will take a look at the fuel lines but as this motor is 18 years old I rather suspect that whatever changes were necessary have been made or it would not have survived this long.

I looked up the record on the recall OMC did and it was for 40 and 50 HP models. So I suppose your assumption is correct. But it never hurts to be careful when dealing with gasoline. Anything that looks dodgy should be replaced.

Happy to report that took boat to the lake a few days ago and other than me leaving one of the plugs (drain type) out was a very successful outing. Once drained the boat performed flawlessly with speed at WOT of 38mph utilizing a 13 3/4" X 15" aluminum prop. achieving a max RPM of 4800. Motor idled well with no appreciable vibration and no hesitation upon acceleration. Ran at close to WOT for maybe 20 minutes and back to idle. I was favorably impressed and hope it continues to perform as outlined above.
