65hp Evinrude "Triumph" proper start proceedure? 6 years 5 months ago #136382

Need Operator instructions on how to start "Electric Shift" motor. All I can find on line are "Service Manuals" any one know proper way to start/engage shift etc. I don't want to foul it up,I know these motors are tricky.
Model # 652739
Ser # J011014

There's really nothing 'tricky' about the motor if the electric shifter is working properly. There are safety switches that prevent you from starting while in gear. Just make sure it's in neutral. Assuming you have it on the water. Pump up the fuel bulb until it's firm, Put the lever in the start position, if memory serves me there is a idle lever that should be raised, and will only raise if the shifter is in the neutral position. hold the choke button on and turn the key. Should start, might have to choke it off and on until it stays running. Once the motor is running and idling just push the lever whichever way you want to go.

Maybe this will help

Thanks for the info and diagram. What does the "Hot "light do?
Is it supposed to light up when ignition is on?
Or is it an "idiot light "for overheated engine? Mine does not come on when I try to start engine. ??
We're going to put boat in water today and give it a try.
I'll let you know how it works.
Thanks again.

You're correct. The red "hot" light is there to let you know if the engine is running hot and not getting any cooling water circulation. If it comes on shut down the motor because you can do a lot of damage. If needed get a tow back to port.
