Got a question for all you carb gurus.
1978 70hp Evinrude. Has a low speed miss, idle, no wake. High speed is a rocket. I don't know which of the three cylinder is the problem. Changed plugs, check all the coil wires and connections. Is there a low speed jet on this thing? Anything that can be blown out with carb cleaner or air? How about just changing all the coil wires in case one of them is bad. Wondering if solid core would be better than the carbon cores that are on their now.

No idle mixture, #27 is an idle air bleed. Smaller bleed = richer & of course opposite too.
FWIT, it should be nice starting Wednesay. I've been trying to polish the boat & cut grass.

Thank you. That narrows it down somewhat. Tuesday I'll pick up some solid core ign. wire and replace the three coil to plug wires. First thought was original 41 year old carbon core is in sorry condition.
Was able to wring it out finally Sunday. Down side it was in a no wake zone but the PD was so impressed with the classic boat and motor we spent more time gang tied up together yakking that is was worth a warning. Just like sitting at a landing.
Getting some spray polish out and topping off the gas.

Factory wire was solid core. Must have been changed by some DIY guy.

Ya. Just took 'em apart. 3 little stubbies 4 1/4" long so I'll go the my local dealer and pick up 15". Spring ends and boots are all good.
