Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.“

hey john, i think the motor is worth something. if it's complete, nothing serious broken with it and has decent compression, it would be worth $100-$150. it's a long shft too, so that makes it somewhat unique. if it were down the road from me, i'd snag it. scott

Those motor with the clam shell hood are getting hard to find. Might need coils and for sure and impeller. But if it truns over I would get it if not priced to high. They are good motors I have one.

The 56 30hp was a 1 year motor being only a slightly tweaked version of the 25hp from 1955. They have a habit of blowing up if run hard on less than a 24:1 mix. That said I have a 56 30hp Evinrude that I run the prop off of every summer and it runs flawlessly! Personally for a motor in the condition of the one you have found I would want to own it for well under $100.00

What would be the difference between this motor and a 1956 Johnson Javelin?

Trim. The Javelin had some extra chrome and painted bits tacked on. Yours looks to be electric start, so that wouldn't be a difference. All Javelins came in electric start form...

Thank you for the info.

I did not mean to hi jack here. I just had a question about the same kind of motor. Sorry about that.

Wow ... didn't know it was a 1 year only motor. Have 1 that runs on the back of my 1963 Hiawatha.

I'd check out the trailer too, if its one of the popular vintage ones it could be worth more than the motor in parts.
