If you look at the tansom clamp you should find a tag with numbers on it. One is the model number the other is the seral number. Also you will find a welch plug on the motot top with the same numbers. Post those and we can tell you the year and hp.

WOW!!! wouldn't those sink our nice little boats? i would love to find a nice 75-85hp motor for mine. I think that would be about perfect. I jus twant to be able to take the kids out and go tubing and maybe pull a skier or wakeboarder....would that be enough power for that?

Great motor. Simple to work on, plenty of power to ski, parts easy to get. Your boat looks light enough to run fine with 40hp. JUST GET RID OF THAT FIN!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes. They are only a bandaid for a poor setup or underpowered boat that won't plane properly.

That fin sticking out each side of the leg is also called a whale tail and they are good for breaking the cavition plate off. With the motor setup right you don't need it.

If it were me, I'd take the whale tail (dole fin, they go by several names) off and try the boat without it. It's hard to tell from your pics, but your motor appears to be mounted at about the right height. Chances are good that your boat didn't need it to start with! Many times those things were purchased under the pretense of the advertising hype; better handling, quicker planing, increased top end, etc.. You can always go back and fill in the mounting holes later, or reinstall temporarily (for testing) if that's what you decide to do.

Also noticed somebody just left the muffs on the motor, not a good idea. They can hold a little water in the passages that could freeze in the off season, enhance corrosion, etc. The unit needs to be able to drain completely, IMHO.

The Crosby has great looking lines, good luck with your project and keep us posted. I just became a big fan on the Johnny-rudes this year, hope you get it all sorted out.
