Pardon my ignorance, I'm new to old boats. Is there an early and later version on the Johnson-style fuel connectors? I'm trying to connect a new female fitting to a 1961 75hp V-4 and can't get the pin for fuel to insert fully or seat. Looking in a West Marine book, the male fitting they show is different from what is on my motor (has a plunger on tip where mine looks longer with two holes drilled through side), but they don't show any other option.

The single line Johnrude female fitting will fit all Johnrude male fittings.

I have found some that the hole in the femal fitting is bigger the others don't know why this is but there seems to be 2 Sizes.

If the lock pin has been hit hard by something, it actually can sink a little into the aluminum. This will make it slightly shorter, and the latch on the hose fitting will no longer engage the groove cut into the lock pin. This problem is rare, but i have come across it before. You can try to bend the tab on the fitting lock out, to catch the groove on the lock pin sooner, or, if the fuel fitting on the motor is removable, replace it.

All my V4s the fuel fiting is bilt into the pan. so can't change them. If nothing else you can run the fuel line out of the pan and use any kind of furl fitings you want.
