Some pix would help so we can see what you are talking about/

I have the same starter (Prestolite MGB 4001-12V) that was a takeoff from my '66 Evinrude 100 HP that I no longer have. Good for parts only- looks to be incomplete and nonfunctional. Message me if interested.

Now that I see what starter that is I have one just like in your pix and mine has teeths miss on gear. HandyAndy if he don't want yours I will take it. I got a 65 Johnson 75hp short shaft the would go nice.

It looks as if that is the same one as I have to the exact. Know that it does not work how much would you be asking for it? I called around and they charge 250 to rebuild. I found the same engine that I have near my home for 100 and it comes complete but I am always looking for extra parts

When you took that starter off the engine what did you use in place of it?

I am not sure what starter was on the motor when it was stolen- this was my father's motor before I got it. Arco or Sierra might make a compatible starter but I can't seem to find one either. In any case, I see Prestolite 2-brush starter repair kits are still available around $30. To rebuild what you have might be your only option.

Send me a message me if you would like the starter I have. I will sell at a reasonable price.

I did some checking to see if I could help you guys out with a source on new or rebuilt starters. The only people left who still even show the unit in their range is Wilson, 91-06-1910 & they have no stock and no cores to rebuild. Apparently the drive gear (commonly called a bendix) is actually cut into the armature shaft, and not a replaceable item like you would normally find in a starter. Sorry

I have one on my 68 100. I'll check the #s. I think the motor has more problems than is worth fixing. If it isn't worth fixing I will sell it off the motor along with the lower unit (which works well and holds oil)and any other parts wanted by anyone.
