I just picked up a boat with this motor.
I am buying all of the tuneup parts now.
Any input on what to expect as far as performance, reliability, fuel consumption, etc.
The boat is a 65 IMP Apache 16 foot.
I am thinking this is alot of motor for this boat.

Those are good motors but don't be supprised if the compression is down around 80lbs almost all my V4s are like that and will run good.
For good gas milage get her up to speed and than back off the gas a little and she wont eat so much gas. As for over powered you don't have to run WOT all the time. If the motor has been sitting for some time a change of the water pump is in order.
Take care of it and it will last a long time.
Plus check the oil in the lower unit after each use or water in it.

Never had a Speedifour (yet), but I've never met a Johnnyrude I didn't love, especially the V4's! Too much motor?, NAW. ;)

Thanks guys.
I am planning on taking it out to the local pond for a test rip in two weeks, this weekend I will be installing the tuneup components.
I changed the oil in the lower already, checked out the impeller and started on the top end.
Cleaning, cleaning, cleaning.
I don't know yet if I will hang onto this one yet. There are lots of others that need a boat. Putting someone else on the water is part of this "illness" also!!!

Get her running good in a baroll first. Then the fine tuning can be done out on the water. That way you can make sure she is pumping water too.
