TOPIC: V V-4 club

We need to start a Vintage V-4 club or is there already one. I now have two.Some of you guys have multiple v-4s. Why not...Vintage v-4s(Harley Davidsons of the waterways)...just a thought.

well I got 4 of them and selling 2 75s so have will have on fat 50 and one 75.
it would be nice but don't think we have enough people to make a club and most to far apart for a get togather. Mike aka pathfinderz1 |

Yeah Mike,I'm just kicking ideas around on a Sunday. There's not enough old v-4s around where I live for any club.Heck there is but very,very few old boats you see out on the lakes.I did see an aqua Glastron seafair sedan a couple years ago at Badin Lake. Now that was extremely rare to see.

Jim,
I have 6 now: '58 Fat Fifty Johnson, '60 Evinrude and '60 Johnson 75 hp, '62 Sea King 60hp,'66 Johnson 85 hp, '68 100 hp Johnson. The 80 and 100 hp power heads will get transplanted onto the earlier, cooler looking chasis. Need to talk to Bruce Gerard to get some pointers on hot-rodding these motors up. Paul |

boatman, your v-4 poor.lol. I'll be happy to keep gas in my two, one at a time.lol.If I get any more, I want to get a powerhead to replace the one on the Aristo someday cause she's getting low on compression(70-80lb per cylinder)I guess that's low, but she still runs as good like she has for years

heck,i have a 1963?starlite v,75hp that is in the glassifieds,i had it at 600,but lowered it to 300,im waiting until the weekend then it goes to ebay,lol,i love the looks of it its just so darn big and heavy,lol,john

These are bulky motors, they are actually not that heavy compared to a newer ( 1990 ) or so 90 HP.
I just finished rebuilding a 97 -90 HP and have done numerous of the newer V-4 motors. Never saw that many piston / ring problems with these older 75 HP motors . Great motors for occasional use.Easy to maintain and easy on parts prices for tune-up stuff. |

Anyone want a 1960 Evinrude V75 hood? Make me an offer. I'm also willing to strip the emblems off if you need those and don't want the bucket...

My 60 Larson All American is powered by a 59 Evinrude Fat Fifty.

Bob - a friend of mine mixed and matched some '50s-'60s V4 parts to make a hot rod. He used a full gearshift bullet unit from a 60hp, mid and cowling from a Fat Fifty and a powerhead from a 90. That thing howled!! They rate them at around 4500 RPM and his was spinning up around 6000 revs. His major issue was finding a prop that fit the confines of the small gearcase and kept the RPM from getting too high... He ran it on an old molded plywood Yellow Jacket...

Sweet. I'm trying to keep this one "stock" looking from the outside. On the advise from Bruce Gerard I'm changing out the reed plate for a 75hp. I also got a pair of 60hp heads and I'm having them milled down .125. Yep a full 1/8" then I'm putting them on . I have to find some matching paint so they look "almost" stock. Should push her just shy of a 75hp motor on output. I'm going to make a thread as soon as I can do the work. Bob |

Scott, them Yellow Jackets weren't rated for that much HP. That boat had to just plain fly, if it would hold together.

Too bad for him that he didn't have this. Michigan racing prop that I found some years ago. It is the tallest that I've ever seen for a V4 pin drive 10-1/4X18 cupped & mild rake. The tallest factory prop was a 10-1/4X12 no cup-no rake. I have the same prop but 13 cup on my Reinell. With a very healthy V-75, all it can turn is 4,000 @ 42 mph. This 18 cup must have been intended to push a block of styrofoam.....
