I found out the remote I have is off of a 1985 115 evinrude. It uses a different connection inside the remote. I have new cables but they are for the old style remote as well as the 1976 motor I have. The holes in the shifter and throttle are larger than the pins that go into the old style cable ends. I understand that the newer cables ah an eye loop on them. I also only have one of the pins for the remote I have.
Is there an adpator sold for the conversion or a cable withthis combination made? I have not found one yet but I may not be using the correct terminology.
The pins are called clevis pins on the newer remote.

You need to buy cables to match the control box. They have the ends installed. The pre-79 cables have the removable ends that will not fit your control box.

I have a 73' 65HP. I just replaced my cables to the engine.
I am kicking myself for not doing it sooner.
It was sooo easy.
If yours is a 76' and you have the same control box as that craigslist listing, then you are all set.
Measure and order. I think I bought mine from Jamestown.

I think I see your issue. Get that control box off of craigslist.
Then some new cables.
Was this rewired by a previous owner?

Long story short. A year I bought a cheap (LOL) boat with a 64 40hp lark engine that needed a lot of work and the boat needed more than 40hp. My brother in TX. had just bought a cheap boat for its 115hp, ptt and good trailer. He gave me his old 70hp looper and this control box (the control box in pieces) I thought it was from the 70hp so I bought cables for it a year ago. I just went to put it all together and found out the control box was from the 115 so the cables I bought won't work as is.

Does the engine have the red electrical plug?
If so, grab that control box off of craigslist before it is too late.
They are usually $100+ and don't pop up very often.

Update I received the remote from craigslist today. Overall in great shap except it would not come apart to remove the old cables and install my new ones. ;) :(
I soaked the screws in liquid wrench for an hour then hit them with my impact. Two of the 3 spun there heads off the other on stripped the phillips head off, I drilled that one out.
Came from Rohde Island should have figuured salt water usage. Interior is great though. Just an extra step of easy out/ drill out and retap the three screw holes. I may take it to a machine shop for that. I have found machine shops to be cheap and acurrate for that. tgey cut out a lot of frustration

I had to replace my ignition switch a few years ago. I broke the screws as well.
