TOPIC: looking for a good manual

looking for a good manual 10 years 3 months ago #99145

I am looking for a repair manual for a 1970 70 HP Johnson.

There is a Clymers manual listed on Ebay, but I have never been thrilled with their manuals in the automotive realm. It seems like they offer a few books that cover a HUGE spectrum.
Is there a better choice available that I haven't found?
Thanks in advance
Mike

I've gotten a few model & year specific service manuals on EBAY, a few combined year/model but factory service manual and generic multi year/model that suffices as well as a couple CD's that are multi year/model manuals, but those last 2 aren't nearly as helpful as the specific manuals are.

Some argue that the generic multi model manuals are geared towards garage DIY guys more so then the factory manual, but if I can find 1, I'll always prefer the specific model & year factory manual. Keep watching.

Same for parts manuals.

BTW: MarineEngine.com doesn't list a 1970 70hp Johnson. I checked forward & back a couple years and didn't see a 70 hp listed....

1970 Johnson OB's

Good luck

A 70HP would be 1974 and up.
What is your model #?

You are both correct.
That was a typo.
My motor is a 1979

I will keep checking Ebay

Thanks

Ken Cook Co. is the authorized seller of OMC parts and service literature, but they are pricey:

Or try posting a wanted ad in the Antique Outboard Motor Club's Webvertise forum, probably a much cheaper option:

Ebay has one now but it is pricey.

Marine Engine dot com has reprints.

OK. So I purchased a Johnson Service manual online, (EBay), and just received it.
I screwed-up and bought a manual for a 1980 70HP, instead of a 1979 70HP.
I bought the manual to disassemble the pivot shaft. (the steering is frozen).
The pictures and descriptions seem very similar between the two model years, I but is there anything specific that I should watch-out for, in the way differences between the two years?

I appreciate your input.
