TOPIC: Oil/gas mix?

My dad I just picked up a 1998 Crest party barge with a 120 horse Force (by Mercury) outboard. Does anyone know what the oil/gas mix ratio is for this engine? Thanks,

Ratio is 50:1. Had one of them for a few years- use nothing BUT quality oil, or synthetic, and it will last for years. Seen many die from using cheap oil. Makes a difference with these motors. And you will love the simplicity under the hood, too. Easy to work on.

I figured it was going to be 50:1 but wanted to hear from someone who knew first hand. The motor is clean as a pin on the inside. The boat's in real nice shape, but has been in a slip for the last 4 months so the pontoons and lower half of the motor need a good cleaning.

if i had a large body of flat water within a reasonable distance, i would have a pontoon also. good luck. ron

Yeah pontoon boats are great for carrying a bunch of people/stuff.

50:1 is the correct mixture and yes use good oil. In any motor.

The story goes that when Bayliner bought Chrysler the Force name was adopted. Later when Brunswick and then Mercury got involved the motors were spruced up with Merc gearcases/props, CDI, etc. Which is what you have Doug.

Force doesn't have a great reputation down here in FL. Having never owned one I can't say if that's deserved or not. But you sho don't see too many around. Having said that a buddy of mine had a motor just like yours on a 19' Maxum and he liked it. Seemed to run okay?

Yeah, the early Force sucked, but I've heard pretty good things about the Mercury version. This one fires up before you can even get your fingers off of the switch, even cold.... It's been well taken care of, I'll be givingf it a test run Monday or Tuesday after the 4th is over.
