TOPIC: Dorsett VIN info needed

Dorsett VIN info needed 14 years 5 months ago #11390

Hi, Just today I bought a 1969? Dorsett Catalina. It is in good shape, with the builders tag still in place. Question? THe serial # was never stamped on the builders tag. Did Dorsett put the Serial # / VIN in other locations as well? I really need to find it so that I can start the registration process. Any help would be appreciated.
Also, where can I find parts such as the windshield or Dorsett emblems?

Thanks for your time!

My 1967 Hydrodrodyne Speed V was stamped in the outside upper right corner of the transom just below the rub rail. I believe that's where all true HIN# are stamped by law, once they became required.

There was NO requirement for boats in USA to have hull ID/serial number/VIN prior to November 1972. that's when the US Coast Guard uniform system began. So anyting built before that time may or may not have an ID. It was up to each individual boat builder.

Someone here may know if Dorsett had a hull ID system and how to decipher it. I do not know.

I have a 1964 dorsett catalinia, the hull number molded into the gel coat right under the rub rail on the right hand side, about 6 inches in front of the transom

Thank you for the help. I found it! next question, The first letter is either a C or a G. Very hard to tell, after all this time. Anyone know how to decode the Hull # ? It's a late model Catalina.
Thanks again for your help!
