Probably best to post this on the JEGO board here and at www.aomci.net as well.

Try putting 1958 sea king model GG8985A in google and see what happens. Doesn't bring up a lot, but plenty to get you going.

Sea King GG8985A is a 1958 Gale outboard motor, rated at 25 HP.

Here's the reference I used:

Are the knobs moving on their own? If so, they have a packing nut at the base of the needle shaft that might need to be tightened a bit. The knobs should move snugly, but not too snug that you can't adjust them.

The knobs are on the ends of the needle valves. Upper is the slow speed adjustment - usually start at about 1.5 turns from closed. Lower is high speed adjustment - usually start at 1 turn from closed. Adjust from there - usually inwards, until the motor starts to lose power or sneeze, then back out about 1/8 turn. Do the high speed one first.

k916,just for your future reference, gale went out of bussiness and quit making motors in 1963,but most of their parts are johnson/evinrude,so you may still be able to find parts that will work on your motor, john

For the best info on you motor go over to AOMCI heres the Link
www.aomci.org/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=askamember
So of the guys on there have been working on these motors all their lifes
They can give you info on were to get part and all the spec's
Any old motor like that if it has been sitting for a year or more you will want to replace the impeller and drain the lower unit and put in fresh 80wt oil in. I have about 40 or so of these old motors and that is were I go for info. They will tell you the plug settings and points settings. How to adjust the carb and anything else you might need to know and then some.
