Hi - I just bought a 1960 Glass Craft Cavalier with a '62 Evinrude Starflite IV 75HP (Selectric).

The top is pretty rough, and the deck is marginably serviceable. We're planing a resto this fall.

My question: what type of ladder or boarding accessory is traditionally used for this type of boat to assist a swimmer in getting back on board? Is it a ladder? Rigid, or hanging rope ladder? Where is it typically placed: transom, or hung from a side with added hardware?

Thanks!

After market boarding ladders are typical for outboard boats. One that has metal tubing for frame and wood or plastic steps is typical. The frames have "hooks" which can be placed over the gunwale. Garlick in St. Paul Park, MN made 'em back in the day and still makes 'em today.

Some of the transom handles made back in the day were almost like steps in that they had a somewhat substantial horizontal surface.

This is a photo of a vintage Garelick Mfg. brochure that was listed on ebay awhile ago, showing the bathing beauties and their ladders:
