TOPIC: 1980 Silverline Catalina 16V

1980 Silverline Catalina 16V 6 years 2 months ago #137979

I have opportunity to purchase a 1980 Silverline 16' Silverline Cataline 16V from a friend. It is rated 140hp. It had a (blown) 90hp. I have a line on a 1980 Chrysler 70hp in nice shape. Would that be enough for cruising with this hull? Thanks.

Looks like a tri-hull. Check this link. Pictured with an 85hp.

The 70 would work but it is a heavy boat. Would cruise comfortable but would not be a speed demon. I'd guess top end somewhere in the low 30's with one person.
That being said I would also stay away from the Chrysler motor. Nice but parts are getting hard to come by and if you find them $$$$. IMHO. Check out ebay or Craigslist and you can usually find a nice reliable Merc or OMC higher hp.
