TOPIC: Replacement inspection plate for my boat

Replacement inspection plate for my boat 5 years 6 months ago #139803

I have a 1974 14ft Ouachita Defender. I had a OHIO ODNR inspection a few weeks ago. The officer said the weight and number info was to low and the formula used now allows for more weight.
Can i get buy an updated inspection plate???

Short answer no. The capacity label that came with the boat is what the manufacturer recommended. Most boat manufacturers do not keep records that far back, and due to liability reasons will not give you a new label. The officer was misinformed. Even if the formula for calculating capacities had changed (and it hasn't) you can't change the label on the boat. If you want to confirm this, email Mr Chang, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., at the US Coast Guard Office of Boating Safety. They are the ones who regulate this.

The info on how this is calculated is on my web site as well, at newboatbuilders.com/pages/load.html . This procedure has not changed
