TOPIC: Oldies but Goodies still seen at Boatyards

I thought maybe it would be fun to post pictures of old classic boats that might be a little run down seen in local marinas, boatyards, and the like. They are getting rarer and rarer all the time. In some way I feel it's important to document these while they exist. These guys all dream of being returned to the water...some may be lucky enough one day. I'll start: Oh, and feel free to tag where they were when seen and if anyone knows what the make or model is, please tell us all!

The Seafair hull when approaching is unmistakable.

Much still appears original and was told it's being used on the Chicago river as is.

Made in Chicago. This one has been all sanded and varnished and painted.


Although, its starboard rudder board is a tad punky.



New board shaved on bottom to fit contour of the hull.


And it’s critical that the shaft bore be plumb and square to portside shaft.

Rough duty down in that bilge. She should be back on the water next week.

This boat was parked for years in an Islander's front yard....It was my favorite boat as a child and was largely responsible for my affinity for old cabin cruisers, and also why I so badly wanted bow rails on my Seafair. The above photos are recent, but this one is from my archives. One day the boat was gone. Probably long since broken up. I always wanted to know who the manufacturer was. Anyone know?

I carried the dank odor of that bilge with me for the rest of day.

Yes, varnish can be pleasing to the olfactory nerves. While the bilge in a 85 year old boat is another story. I was pleased to get home and hit the shower that night.

This Aristocraft is a very well-built boat but unfortunately the skipper could not get it started.


The Merc Cruiser died while underway the night before. Was able to row to a pier that was luckily nearby, and later got towed back to Canal Street. Scary out on the river at night and real scary with no power.


Really sucked it didn’t start cuz the next port was a brewery just a few miles up the river.
