I want to have fold down seats for my Delmar project. I have (most of) one of the original seats. I want to repair/rebuild that seat and try to make another. It attaches from the side and had some kind of post that would swing down to the floor, right? That post and bracket are missing. Anyone have pictures of what that would have been?

I have to recreate something similar for the 1959 Thompson wooden 19 ft cabin cruiser that I am restoring.

The aluminum frame is 1 inch tubing. I have several swim ladders from the many project boats I've had over the years. The "hooks" are close to the shape of the support piece under the seat.

Hello David,

On your question I thought of this boat and recalled it had similar seating. Only one there but looks like what you showed on the cruiser.

Photo late 50’s in Belmont Harbor in Chicago on Lake Michigan. The small yacht directly above the Royal Lancer is the Robert Allan II which is still in use. And coincidentally that is a Delmar motoring into the harbor at top on right.

Thanks,
Terry

That's a great photo Terry !

DavidK - If you are on facebook, look at my personal page Andreas Jordahl Rhude and also the Thompson Boat Owner's Group and Thompson Antique & Classic Boat Rally. I think I have an album of boat seats on one of them

Thanks for the photo, Terry. You have quite a boat image library! Cool that there is a Delmar in the photo. Looks like a large Merc on the transom. I'm going to try a Mark 75 on mine.

Andreas, I'm not a Facebook participant but I'll see if I can get to it through my wife's account. I'm eager to see your seat gallery.

Same boat renamed “CATS MEOW”

And no doubt the Skipper was a “COOL CAT”

Out on the big lake with his sweety.

And yeah, that's an early inline 6 on the Glasspar

Here on lower left notice what looks like a brand new Merc on a woody.

That's quite a rig! All the bells and whistles. Very cool "cat's meow" on the side.

Although the sets were much bigger and heavier, I had a similar set up on my old Chris Craft Catalina 251. I wound up using aluminum bow railing hardware mounted to the underside of the seat for the supports. If you need to recreate the tubing bends for the seats themselves you could use aluminum bow railing and a conduit tubing bender to recreate the shape.

Thanks Resko1, that's a great suggestion. Did you go straight down or angle in?

Mine were originally angled to the corner, however I changed them to straight down. Reason being is that with them angled they were a pain to drop down, and impossible to do in a hurry. The helm seats were big and hung over the edge of the engine hatch, and with the seats in place you couldn’t raise the hatch enough to have clear engine access. With the two straight poles to the floor I could drop both seats in a matter of seconds to get full access to the engine if needed

Hello Davidk,

Seating on the 59 sedan was similar to what they used on the Delmar.

Original

Legs are not hinged. They simply fit into a slot in seat base.

Had tubing anodized and replaced the seats.

You're doing great work on the Delmar and glad to help.
Noticed this from the picture on the Mariner ID post.

I believe the passenger seat was originally the pilot seat.
Looks like the original hardware other than the legs.
