TOPIC: OMC Transom Seal

OMC Transom Seal 3 years 1 week ago #145843

Hi
I picked up a 1966 Johnson Caprice that is in need of restoration. One of the big items that seen to be no longer available is the round transom seal to the outdrive. Can anyone tell me if I can substitute the 16 hole square seal and trim ring, I see that they can still be purchased new. Looking forward to getting started on this project. I will most likely spend the winter researching what needs to be completed and looking for components I'll need .Hope to start working on the hull in the spring.
Thanks for your time,
Walt

The transom seal is the same inner diameter regardless of outer shape.
There were 4 seals over the years:
1) "Round"
2) "Square" (truthfully slightly rectangular)
3) 16 hole "Oval" (the one you call square)
4) 22 hole "Oval"

I am not sure if you have clearance for the larger outer diameter of the 16 hole. Measure carefully, I suspect the top edge will be the problem area if there is a problem.
