TOPIC: Span America project

Span America project 2 years 5 months ago #146859

Hey all I was given a old Span America boat. And I mean given it with a trailer because I was able to haul it away.

Originaly I had no desire to mess with it. Then I noticed how odd the trailer was with a transverse leaf spring. Then I noticed the lines of the boat. It's got style in my opinion and now I am looking to build her back up.

Odd things, it's a left hand control, to me this is odd. Throttle handle is different with finger grooves. And oddest of all the speedometer works.

Seats were rotten in front to that wven the vinyl gone. Both seats just fell apart when you touched them. Rear seat was missing

The only number I can find us on the back right in the metal trim near where the motor mounts.

It appears to be a VIP from the shape of the hull. I am missing a few main parts besides the outboard and tank I am also missing the entire windshield.

The top is sun faided out badly and there is some surface cracks but all seems solid. Floor is solid

So my quandary is if I should fix it. If so where do I begin.

What could it be worth, as it is, or fixed up.

Hey Theskyisoutthere,

Welcome to FG.
That is a beauty! Looks like the VIP runabout.

If everything is solid just polish her up, put an old motor on it and go boating.

Thanks,
Terry

Looks like you have a lot to work with there. A real survivor!

I love the steering wheel, speedo and fittings.

That's a really cool boat. We have a 1962 Span America that belonged to my Grandfather. It has lived it's whole life inside a boathouse so I am lucky that it is in really nice shape.
