TOPIC: Generic trailer 8" wheelcovers / hubcaps?

Generic trailer 8" wheelcovers / hubcaps? 2 years 4 months ago #146980

Hi, my boat trailer has 8" generic wheels similar to the attached photo - is anyone aware of a baby moon style wheelcover (or kit with some sort of mounting hardware) that would work to replicate the vintage look of Tee-nee / Gator trailers ?

Hello fivespeedV8,

On the vintage trailers with original wheels, the hub caps were generally attached 3 ways:

1) On eight inch trailer wheels the hub caps just pressed into the wheel

2) Clips which attached to the inside of the hub cap

3) Three dimples stamped into the wheel which press against the outside of the hubcap lip

Original vintage wheels are increasingly sought after because new replacement wheels are void of these features.

If you search the web for 'Volkswagen Bug Hub Cap Clips' you will find options that you might make work. Still, you face the challenge of drilling/mounting the four clips at the precise places on each wheel to ensure the hubcap is centered and secure.
