TOPIC: Repower? 1959 Scott 40hp has died

We have a 1959 Performer. It's coral, with all coral topsides and upholstery. The Scott Atwater 40 hp motor is color keyed coral, too.

It was stored 1962-2010. Since then we have enjoyed it on the California Delta. But 4 years ago, it made a horrible noise and would not start. I of course was going to fix it, just like before, I have rebuilt starter, fuel pump, etc. But this time I have not got around to it.

So, the other people want to buy a new motor instead. Of course, we'll color key the motor. But to look at just Suzuki, the 30hp is about the same weight as the Scott, 160lb, while the 40 hp is 100lb more. The boat went 24 kt with the Scott at a reasonable speed.

Back when that Scott Atwater was built hp was rated at the crankshaft. These days it's rated at the prop. Figures I've heard are the hp is about 15% less at the prop than they are at the crankshaft, so the 30 should be about the equivalent of 35 or 36 from back in the day. Probably not too much difference in performance from the old Scott.
If it were me I would fix the Scott, just because I like the idea of having the original motor on the boat.

Beautiful boat with awesome period correct motor. I hope you are able to resurrect the Scott or locate another period correct motor.
