fabuglas,i like it ,but it might also look good if the red was replaced with grey or high metellic silver,or burgandy, just an opininon, but what you have does look good,i love the lines your useing.
you could also bring the stripe up into the fins ,to accentuate them.
boy im full of all kinds of crap advise, lol, but i really do like what you have already,by the way i just gave away my color scheme for my next boat, lol,

I think it looks sharp! Consider connecting the three red "blocks" by extending the thin red stripe along the bottom already in play and connecting the black "blocks" with a similar width stripe along the top. This will make a better visual "flow" and connect the elements. Also, match the angle of the edge of the transom to the ends of the "blocks". The way they are angled now seems to "fight" the transom angle, which is the visual and physical conclusion of the graphic. Just my 5 cents...(2 cents adjusted for inflation and current market conditions! LoL)

Please feel free to toss any or all of my comments in the circular file! :D

To me the red angled stripes make it look like a highway barrier.

Ok.. here's my dilema..
I had painted the hull of the Fabuglas 3 years ago- when my engine builder said "I'll bring your powerhead next Saturday".. (he's had it for 4-years now)
I hadn't planned on doing the floor, transom, splashwell etc...

As I waited for my engine to arrive, I began looking much closer at my boat... and how the floor and stringers were just "cobbled together" by the previous owner. Boating season was missed for another year, so I dug into the transom, floor and stringer replacement.

When I did this, the corners of the outer skin needed to be reinforced, as there were some cracks showing on the sides of the boat. Had it only been the transom, I could have had a color-break at the corners... but my repairs had to wrap around the edges several inches. I need to repaint the sides at least 16" forward. I cannot match the white I used on the hull. It was leftover paint I had at the shop. I had some extra, but it's 4-years old and no longer useable. So, I'm trying to work with what I have...

Here's another set of possibilities...

Me too...i think i would go with the 2nd or last combination.

The extra black on the top deck helps set it off.

Thanks for the ideas all... I think the black will compliment the Merc 1400 too. I wish it had the red-stripe decals and the stainless face though...(I can probably fake them)

fabugls, how did you do that,i tried photo shop .com,but it wont doenload,i have dial up.
it would be nice to see how a boat would look before i paint it.
with the sunray i masked it,but still was hesitent about my color scheme,i was pretty sure it would look like i had it in my mind ,but i always have a little doubt.john

Nice work. That second set actually looks like a factory style paint scheme. I like the one with the name and the smaller "F" logo down in the brown area.

Although, what about the F logo up on the side of the cabin on that large rear pillar?

How about adding some red/black to the cabin to tie it in a little better?

I'm trying to keep the heat down. My other red boat is impossible to stand on after it's in the sun awhile. I will probably do some pinstripes but nothing major.

Painted the black today...

Before:

During:

After:

A 1963 Corvair hubcap makes a nice radius!!!

A little watersanding and buffing and the blend-line will disappear
Then after the yellow is sprayed- I'll add an additional red stripe on the "fin".

I'm taking the pictures from far away..
This was never intended to be a "restoration".... too much time and $$ to do that. This is going to be a pleasure-boat. Well used in all climates, and stored in an open carport.
There are plenty of flaws.. I wasn't about to try to remove all the original waves. only (3) small spidercracks can be noticed (if you really look for them)- but they will surely be gone after the buffing. I did have a bug make a 2" track before he succumbed to the sticky urethane. He didn't land until the 3rd coat, so the track will also sand out.

More Photoshop-ing... Upper pinstripes will be 1/4" lower will be 1/2"

Photoshop is a program created by Adobe. It's a very powerful (and expensive) graphics and photo editing software. My brother has an advertising agency so he has to keep current with programs like these. This is one of his older versions.
Mine is version 6.5... which came out in 1997 or so.. so it's OLD.. but it does everything I want/need it to do. It's one of those programs that you really have to use alot to be any good at it.
I am NOT good at it... but some things I can do.

I need more practice putting Jennifer Love Hewitt's face on a porn-star body... :P

But this will have to do...

Do you have a gallery posted anywhere of your restoration? I looked in the gallery on this site and didn't see your boat, did I just over look it?

Thanks

I haven't posted there.. I usually just post links to the most recent photo-galleries I've made... Then they get buried with age in the forums.

I'll look into posting these things where people can more-readily access them...

Mike, I believe Ray said he's re-doing the project on his web-site, but here's the link to his main:
www.raylinrestoration.com/
If you'll click his avitar and go to his profile, you can search his recent posts and see many of the recent pictures, etc... You can also use the search forum box in the upper right hand corner of the screen, type in 69Fabuglas or anything else you want to check out.

Ray, I really like the way that thing is looking now, the evolution from the initial design is amazing, great job. Looking forward to seeing more here and when you get your site updated.

That would be great!
