Thanks, Jon

Re:1955 Kainer? 14 years 9 months ago #1692

Here's the photos from the Ebay listing. Definitely a 1950's boat, but not made by Kainer. Kainer was a marine hardware manufacturer- it is quite likely the name Kainer was found on your steering wheel and believed to be the manufacturer.

Seeing as this is a quite unique design, hopefully someone can come up with the original manufacturer. If not, one route would be to request the title or registration information from the state of California.

Owner does not have the title. Will provide with a bill on sale. I will have to bond it. Thanks for the help on the pictures. He also said California purges their records every 7 years, so he has found no info. It is a mystery boat to me. Just thought it looked cool. Sold mt 57 Cutter cabin last year.

This is the closest thing I could find so far. A Larson. The bow light looks the same and in the same position, as does the windshield. But cockpit layout is reversed and the rear cut out for the outboard is way bigger. Could it be same company, different design or model?

No, not sure what your boat is, but it's not a boat built by Larson. I have seen one of those somewhere before. I was thinking it was on here a couple of years back. I remember the way the handles are built into the rubrail molding. Sure wish I knew more about it. It is a sweet boat.

Re:1955 Kainer? 14 years 9 months ago #1727

I think I know the boat ClassicFins is mentioning. I believe it was Crosbyboat? who posted some photos he received via email?

I can't find the original post, but here are the images that I believe were from that post?

Yep.. That's the one I was thinking of! It didn't have a name either. I would trade my Ebbtide for that one! B)

When Andy said crosbyboat he meant Brian Lawson. His username is crosbyboat.

More than likely they built two or more styles.. Many builders offered finless and finned models because not all of the buyers were hip to the fins. lol Personally, the bigger the fin the better in my opinion. ;)

Re:1955 Kainer? 14 years 9 months ago #1740

Something will turn up eventually. Seems like just about every boat that's ever come through here eventually was identified. Some took a few hours, some took a few years. But eventually someone will find one like it, find some brochures, or soemthing that identifies it. As you work on the boat be sure to post pics just to help keep it fresh on people's minds. Plus we love to see pics! B) :side:

Re:1955 Kainer? 14 years 9 months ago #1869

Great find, I was looking at the engine photos and it (was) an old scott atwater set up on there, We talked the other night on the PH about the 40hp I have for sale....maybe thats to big for this boat? Mike in Beaver dam WI probly has a 25hp that would better fit it? With the controll box built into the top of the hull the way it is I dont think I would change from an Atwater,Though depending on the color choise The 16hp gold pennant would look realy cool on it......
When will it arrive?

I am still working on shipping arrangements with the seller, so im not sure when I will see it. He says he has all the parts to put the enging back together. I was thinking if the engine wasnt locked up, trying to get it running again. Where can I get parts for those outboards? What does that motor look like you mentioned? The gold one? Either way I think it will be a very cool boat. I wish I could find out what it was so I could get the specs on how big of a motor I can run.

There's a few Scott ads in the Glassic Library:
www.fiberglassics.com/library/Scott_Atwater

One of the most recommended sources for parts is The Scott Guy:
