Hello! I just came into possesion of a 1962 Mercury Thunderbolt 50 hp in execellent condition and I'd like to keep it that way. I noticed the Solec publications only cover back to 1965. Was there any type of shop maunual for this motor? If so I'd like to try and find an out of print copy. Any one who can help would be appreciated. If not, are the '65's close enough to be of use?

Thank you.

zonaman, you need the "pre-1965" Mercury manual, I'm trying to remember where I bought mine online. I don't recommend using anything but that book, things changed year to year and nobody knows the motor like the folks who built it! (I just sold the 62 Merc700, and included the manual in the deal, sorry.) I'm sure one of the Merc guys can/will jump in here and help us out.

Congrats on being the new owner of a fine piece of American boating history, BTW! Please post some pics when you can. ;)

I got my pre-65 Merc manual off ebay. They're getting harder to find.

I found the site, the pre-65 books are still listed as available. They are $74.95 plus shipping, so John's listing may be a better deal. Frank's suggestion of ebay may be the most economical, if you can find one there.
